Sony PlayStation 5 Reveal – Live Updates

Sony PlayStation 5 Reveal – Live Updates

Well gamers, it’s that time again: Sony have a new gaming console to reveal. AIR Entertainment will be watching the unveiling of the PlayStation 5 live on YouTube and updating as often and quickly as we can. You can also watch it with us by clicking here. Keep it parked here and refresh this page as we cover this exciting event.

By the way, the time listed for this event is in Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), on the West Coast of the United States. I’m writing this from the East Coast so I’ll be updating on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), which is five hours behind England (GMT).

4:01 EDT – The PS5 reveal event is beginning with an elaborate logo/promo bump. Looks like a sizzle reel of ps4 footage – Uncharted 4, The Witness, LBP3, God of War, Horizon, Infamous: Second Son, Death Stranding, Persona 5, loads of big-name games.

4:03 EDT – Grand Theft Auto V (again?). Ok, looks like they’re re-releasing GTA5 in 2021 on PS5. Free GTA Online goodies for ps4 and free GTA Online for ps5.

4:05 EDT – Jim Ryan, President and CEO of PlayStation, doing the greeting thing. From this point on, a bump said, all footage captured on PS5.

4:07 EDT – Miles Morales Spider-Man game coming to PS5 – looks like a sequel to the PS4 title. Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Holiday 2020. Looked like it had some Infamous: Second Son influence too, in a good way – lots of sparks and debris and grounded meta fighting.

4:08 EDT – New Gran Turismo reveal! As usual, incredibly realistic graphics, beautiful lighting and shading. The title is, simply, Gran Turismo 7.

4:11 EDT – Ratchet and Clank are back. Awesome. This clip seems to show R&C popping through dimensions like doors in Portal in real-time. Very crazy – an alien nature world, a tech-heavy place, etc. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

4:13 EDT – Marcus Smith from Insomniac is talking up Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart now. Confirmed the real-time dimension flipping as well as enhanced ray-tracing on Clank. Looks like Ratchet has a new weapon that’s like a Batclaw from Arkham Asylum that moves time and space to him. What a hoot. Always known for its fun weaponry, the new R&C looks to have a Topiary Sprinkler, which is exactly what it sounds like – a garden sprinkler that sprouts flowers under it and slows down bad dudes with obnoxious water. You’d expect nothing less from the franchise that brought us the Sheep Gun.

4:16 EDT – New Square Enix title looks epic. Project Athia – reminds me of the first time I saw footage of Horizon: Zero Dawn. “Designed Exclusively for PlayStation 5.”

4:18 EDT – Annapurna Interactive have a cyberpunk dystopian title for us next. No humans anywhere so far, just robots with Job Simulator heads. Looks like it’s called Stray. Just a teaser, not much shown. Releasing 2021.

4:20 EDT – Looks like they’re doing some info on the system itself now. Ray tracing, 4K HD blu-ray, haptic feedback on the DualSense controller, adaptive triggers, motion sensor, built-in mic and speaker, 3D audio.

4:21 EDT – Hermen Hulst, head of Worldwide Studios, is debriefing us on what they hope the PS5 can do for developers and players. New franchise about to be shown.

4:22 EDT – Housemarque is back! New sci-fi franchise dealing with reincarnation and freaky alien worlds. Third-person shooter, looks a bit like the movie Annihilation. The game is called Returnal.

4:24 EDT – Sumo Digital unveiling Sackboy: A Big Adventure. It looks like a 3/4-view platformer like Tearaway. Co-op fun as well. I think the first two LittleBigPlanet titles will always be my favorite, but this does look like it’s staying true to the fun spirit and flashy style of the LBP’s, despite being a different genre.

4:26 EDT – Lucid have revealed a game that looks like it’s part Twisted Metal, part Super Mecha Champions with the weirdo cyberpunk stylings of Cytus II or Ruiner. What in the Apex Legends Rocket League is this? Destruction Allstars.

4:28 EDT – Ember Lab are unveiling a new title next that looks equally adorable and epic. No promises, but it sounds like Ken Watanabe (Batman Begins, Inception) is doing the voiceover. This looks like a lovely third-person action platformer inspired by everything from Beyond Good and Evil to The Legend of Zelda. Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

4:31 EDT – Animated title up now by KO_OP. Goodbye Volcano High. Looks like a coming-of-age fantasy tale that’s all hand-drawn. For some reason it gave me a Life Is Strange vibe.

4:32 EDT – Wow! A new Oddworld game. No disrespect, but I was not expecting this. It looks like Abe is back for more 2D/3D excitement on the ps5. Oddworld: Soulstorm.

4:34 EDT – Shinji Mikami is up next talking about Ghostwire: Tokyo, which I’ve been waiting to see for a long time. First-person cyberpunk horror/action. It doesn’t look like it will be VR though; the gameplay footage shows the character walking around like an FPS. Coming 2021.

4:37 EDT – Superbrothers title. Very pretty and futuristic. Looks like an arcade-type title but as ominous as Interstellar. Jett: The Far Shore, Holiday 2020.

4:39 EDT – Gearbox is up next with avibrant third-person melee title. It looks like the ps5 is going to be the console of bright and pretty futuristic titles. 😀 Godfall – Holiday 2020.

4:41 EDT – Wow. New title from the Hyper Light Drifter team looks a bit like Abzu meets Fury. Solar Ash – 2021.

4:42 EDT – Scaling down on the intense color palettes of the last few titles, we’re in a more modern/realistic-set universe with Hitman 3. January 2021.

4:44 EDT – Hakan Abrak from IO talking about Hitman 3.

4:45 EDT – Did they just transition us with a bump that’s the ps5 bootup screen?

4:46 EDT – Playroom returns! I wish these guys were my neighbors.

4:47 EDT – neostream coming in with a bizarre adventure title now. Maybe I’m trying too hard to keep up, but I swear this guy just had minions from Despicable Me following him. As silly as they’re presenting this to be, it looks to have a surprisingly sophisticated battle system. The name is Little Devil Inside.

4:48 EDT – Zion Williamson from the New Orleans Pelicans is showing us a teaser for NBA 2K21. Could someone reading this teach me how to play the NBA 2k games? They’re all phenomenal but I swear I lose on Very Easy difficulty. It’s embarrassing. Fall 2020 is the release date.

4:50 EDT – An Australian walrus just ate a strawberry and its hand turned into strawberries. What is happening? From the creators of Octodad, this is basically the island in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 with sentient food. Bugsnax – coming Holiday 2020 to PS5 and my nightmares.

4:52 EDT – Shuhei Yoshida in the house! Whatever this is, it looks pretty badass. Demon’s Souls.

4:55 EDT – Arkane Studios have got something new up next. Looks like a tech-heavy stealth FPS. Looks like it’s playing with reincarnation like Returnal was. “Assassins locked in a time loop.” Deathloop.

4:59 EDT – Resident Evil 8: Village. Coming 2021. Wintry first-person, very much in the style of 7. I’m in.

5:02 EDT – Getting back to our desolate future dystopia, we’ve got a geared-out soldier in a rotted Times Square with a little girl and a robot cat. Weird space-time distortions. I swear a satellite just crashed on this dude and he fired a net to capture it that was big enough to envelop the whole thing. Pragmata, coming 2022. Definitely check the teaser trailer for this one.

5:04 EDT – Possibly Horizon 2. Horizon 2 confirmed! Looks like a red weedlike form of corruption is taking over. Aloy has a rebreather for swimming deep underwater, loads of epic landscapes. Enormous mammoth mech. Horizon: Forbidden West – no release window yet.

5:08 EDT – Guerrilla are going to show a bit more of Horizon: Forbidden West. Oh wait, I lied.

5:09 EDT – Developers are now talking about how stoked they are for the PS5. I’ll admit, they did this with the PS4 pre-launch and I think it helped sales – they did a lot of talking about how open Sony had been with them and asking what they wanted for a console that they’d develop for.

5:10 EDT – Possible console reveal? Whoa that’s a weird-looking console. I’ll add pix ASAP. It looks like a skyscraper from the future.

Oh man. PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Controller, charging station, headset, camera, media remote shown.

5:13 EDT – Show’s over; looks like a recap sizzle reel now. Obviously the digital edition of the console shown above has no disc drive, but unfortunately no pricing info was shown yet.

Stay tuned right here on AIR Entertainment for a recap with links and more!
