Nairi: Tower of Shirin (PC & Switch)

I’m not going to lie but I really wasn’t looking forward to playing Nairi I wasn’t expecting anything worth while at all. I’ve never really bothered with cute chibi looking type games and as I loaded up the game on Steam and saw the large icons obviously made for a switch screen my fears that I would hate this game grew…

Nairi: Tower of Shirin is a graphic adventure developed by HomeBearStudio and Co published by Another Indie and Hound Picked Games, Nairi follows a young girl from the rich district who’s parents are taken, leading Nairi on an adventure she is soon taken by banished bandit cats who she soon befriends leading her to meet Rex an ex-bandit turned scholar.

I won’t spoil any of the story from here but I will give my full honest opinion. At first all I could think is how this game wasn’t designed for the PC with its large interface, but as I played more, Nairi’s adventure grew on me. The art is well done and I guess kinda cute, the puzzles will make you think and the story is well written with the exception of a few spelling mistakes but as it is a story driven game, there is a lot of text to read. All in all Nairi is well worth the £8.99 ($9.99) and time spent playing the game. I highly recommend the game to anyone who likes graphic adventure games.

If you’re not interested in the story, it can be a bit of a drag, but that being said I’m sure there will be an audience out there for it. Unfortunately, I’m not a part of that following. I don’t think that it works well on PC. With all the power available from modern machines, so much more could have been done. Perhaps throw a few Voice Overs in the mix instead of the ‘click, click, click’ as the text is displaying on the screen. I would love to play this on the Nintendo Switch as I feel it would have been a much better experience.

For the younger generation this will be a hit, keeping their young minds guessing with the point and click puzzles throughout, I just dont think it works well for many over the age of 20. That being said, I can really see the charm from within the game and with open eyes on the possibilities and probably enjoyment from kids playing the game. For that reason I will give it a 7/10
