Vampyr Review Nintendo Switch

Vampyr is an action RPG set in 1918 London after the great war during the Spanish flu outbreak.

First things first, I haven’t played Vampyr on any other platform so this review is solely based on my experience with the game on switch.

Vampyr is developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Focus Home Interactive.
You play as Dr Jonathan Reid who has recently woken up with a thirst for blood, on his journey to discover his new self and who made him the way he now is whilst coming to terms with his new abilities, The story so far is deep and linear I never got to complete the game in my 20 plus hours playing.

The game plays great on the switch yet does have a few frame drops as well as some long loading times when moving around the open world. The world does seem lived in but the areas have little to no life in them. This is explained in the story due to people avoiding the Spanish flu. The open world isn’t too large or bursting with life, but the people you do meet and interact with all have an extensive background. Through interacting with the NPCs you can find out a wealth of history of their lives which all adds to the game. The more you do find out about them the more XP you will unlock if and when you decide to feast on them. This brings in to play moral decisions on who to feed on and who to leave alone. Feasting on these people does affect the world around you; the healthier a district is, the more XP you will earn from feeding.

The controls within the game do feel a little difficult to get the hang of and sometimes the UI started to feel a little clunky. That being said, I didn’t encounter any issues with bugs in the game and it does feel like it is a very successful port from the main consoles.

Overall my experience with the game has been an enjoyable one and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the game to anyone wishing to add it to their Switch collection, especially those who are fans of narrative driven RPGs of which I am sure there are many.

As an overall score, Vampyr gets a solid 8/10 from me. There are a few problems with the game, but overall a thoroughly enjoyable game nonetheless.

Vampyr is available on Steam, Epic Store, Humble bundle, Green man gaming, PS4, Xbox store, Xbox Gamepass and Nintendo store.
